Government-issued ID verification is a mandatory step in the registration process for dog sitters and dog walkers in the Netherlands.
How does the ID Verification work?
After you fill out your listing information when signing up as a sitter, you will be prompted by the DogBuddy website to access our partner ID verification platform. First, you will be asked to upload a copy of a government-issued identification, such as a passport, a national ID or a driver’s license. Next, you will be prompted to take a photo of your face using your computer’s camera, or upload one from your computer. This photo will then be checked automatically to verify that the ID document belongs to you.
In some cases, the verification might take a few minutes to process, so you will not see the results immediately. If the system detects some problem, you will be sent an email asking you to resubmit or explaining the reason for rejection. If we are unable to verify your ID, your application to become a dog sitter will be automatically rejected. If you believe your ID was rejected in error, please contact our Support Team so they can review your case manually.
Once the process is complete, a credential will appear on your listing to show that your identity has been verified.
Is it mandatory?
Yes, ID verification is mandatory for all dog sitters and dog walkers.
Who will see my ID and how will it be stored?
We have partnered with Onfido, the global market leader in ID verification, to provide our members the latest and safest ID verification technology for storing and processing your documents. Once you upload your document and photo, they will be stored temporarily on Onfido’s secure servers, until the verification is completed. Onfido maintains bank-grade security using 256-bit SSL encryption. All their data is fully encrypted at rest and in transit, and they employ state-of-the-art firewall and backup technology. Read more about what Onfido does to protect your data, here: https://onfido.com/privacy
Onfido verifies your document and photo automatically. In the rare case that they are not able to verify your ID, you can contact DogBuddy and our Support Team can review the document manually (this can happen if, for example, you have changed your looks significantly from your ID photo).
Once your identity is verified, we will show a credential on your listing, certifying to dog owners that your identity has been checked. Naturally, DogBuddy will never store your ID or use it for any purposes other than verifying your identity (read our Privacy Policy here).
I’m having issues with the verification
If you’re having issues using the Onfido application or believe that you have been rejected incorrectly, please contact our Support Team to review your case.
